Parker Memorial Baptist Church
COVENANT
| Preamble |
Having been as we trust,
brought by divine grace to embrace the Lord Jesus Christ, we do now, as in the presence of
the Great Eternal God, who knows the secrets of all hearts, and in the presence of angels
and men, acknowledge ourselves to be under the most solemn obligation to the Lord; and we
do solemnly covenant and agree
|
Mutual
Care |
First. That we will exercise a mutual care, as members, one of
another, to promote the growth of the whole body in Christian knowledge, holiness, and
comfort, to the end that we may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God:
|
Public
Worship, Charity |
Second. That we will uphold the public worship of God and the
ordinances of His house, and hold constant communion with each other therein; that we will
cheerfully contribute of our property for the support of the poor, and for maintenance of
a faithful ministry of the gospel among us:
|
Family
Religion |
Third. That we will not omit closet (private) and family religion at
home, and endeavor to train up our children and those under our care, with a view to the
service of Christ and the enjoyment of Heaven:
|
| Discipline |
Fourth. We propose, individually, to pay a respectful regard to the
advice and admonitions of the church, and be subject to its discipline as directed by the
word of God, and conducted in the spirit of the gospel:
|
| Godly Walk |
Fifth. That we will walk circumspect in the world, conducting ourselves
with uprightness and integrity towards all men, and by a holy conversation adorn the
doctrine of God our Savior:
|
| Watch-Care |
Sixth. That we will frequently exhort, and if occasion shall require,
admonish one another in the spirit of meekness, considering ourselves lest we also be
tempted, and that as in baptism we have been buried with Christ and raised again, so there
is a special obligation to walk in the newness of life.
|
| World-wide Missions* |
That we be zealous in our
Missionary efforts to advance the Kingdom of God at home and abroad by supporting the
Missionary command of Jesus, going into all the world preaching and teaching His gospel of
love to all races.
|
| Membership Transfer* |
We moreover engage, that when
we remove from this place we will, as soon as possible, unite with some other church where
we can carry out the spirit of this covenant, and principle of Gods word.
|
|
And this covenant we make
with the free and full consent of our souls, hoping through rich, free and boundless
grace, we shall therein be accepted of God into eternal life, through Jesus Christ our
Lord, to whom be glory, majesty, power, and dominion, everlasting. AMEN!
